Highland Perthshire is perfect for both mountain biking and walking. From Birnam and Dunked in the south to Bruar in the north the areas covered by these maps extend along a line either side of the Tay, Tummel and Garry rivers. This is the heart of Perthshire Big Tree Country and there is something for everyone.
Map 1 - Pitlochry has some of the best untapped MTB terrain in Scotland. Try some of these suggested routes or just adventure on your own, using this map as a guide. For a walk or short bike ride there are excellent trails close to the town. For the more experienced there are some great rides on single track climbing to viewpoints high above Pitlochry.
Map 2 - The Glen Fincastle and Loch Bhac route, described in this guide and marked on the map in red, is a classic MTB ride. It includes one of the best and longest single track descents in the area. A 2nd route is suggested, marked on the map in orange, it also visits the beautifully picturesque Loch Bhac. The orange route is mostly on road and forest tracks. The recommended rides are long, the views are stunning and there are refreshments available at the cafÃ©s and inns marked on the map.
Map 3 - The Atholl Estates, north of Blair Atholl, has some of the best high level trails in Scotland. There are 3 terrific routes marked on the map and described in detail in this guide. The trails are generally well graded estate tracks that penetrate deep into the glens and climb high into the hills of the Atholl Estates. With a backdrop of stunning mountains and 5 Munros this is a great area for both biking and hiking.
Map 4 - Glen Tilt on the The Atholl Estates, north of Blair Atholl, is one of the most majestic Glens in Scotland. There are 3 terrific routes marked on the map and described in detail in this guide. The trails are generally well graded estate tracks that penetrate deep into the glen and climb steadily to the picturesque and remote Falls of Tarf. With a backdrop of stunning mountains and Munros this is a magnificent glen for both biking and hiking.
Map 5 - The terrain around the twin towns of Dunkeld and Birnam is ideal for walking and mountain biking. The map shows a detailed path network and some terrific suggested routes on well graded tracks. With a backdrop of stunning mountains and great views of the Tay Valley this is Highland Perthshire at its picture-postcard best.
